Lower Township and Avalon announced their National Night Out events today. Lower Township will have its event at the Cape May Lewes Ferry Terminal this year, while Avalon’s event will be located next to Community Hall. Avalon is ramping up its efforts with various code enforcement complaints. The Borough announced the public has a new web-based portal that it can use to not only report potential code violations but also to keep track of the abatement of nuisance issues like trash, construction sites, and other issues. ##
Avalon has achieved an AAA bond rating from Standard and Poor’s. Mayor Martin Pagliughi announced that for the eighth consecutive year, the Borough has received no suggestions for improvement in its annual audit. He credits work done by the Avalon Finance Office and Council for fiscal stability in the community. ##
The New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness will be holding a hometown security initiative in Avalon on August 2nd. It is a program designed to help businesses and their employees support the safety and security of the communities they serve. ##
Some outstanding news for the Borough of Avalon was announced at the Wednesday Council meeting. For the eighth consecutive year, Avalon received no suggestions for improvement in its municipal audit. Business Administrator Scott Wahl also announced Avalon has maintained its AAA bond rating from Standard and Poor’s. ##
Avalon Police have charged a man with a DWI and other offenses during a recent traffic stop. 35 year old Douglas J. Smith of Pilesgrove was charged after police found suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside his vehicle at 48th Street and Dune Drive on June 27th. ##
Avalon Police have charged a man with criminal trespass after he was seen trying to gain access to several motor vehicles on 49th Street, before entering one and rummaging through belongings. Police say 21 year old Ryan Abell exited the vehicle and then urinated next to it. Abell was released on a summons. ##
The Avalon Borough Council held its reorganization meeting Friday afternoon. John McCorristin was named the new president of Council during the meeting. McCorristin, Dr. Nancy Hudanich, and James Deever all were sworn in to office by Mayor Marty Pagliughi. ##

Several shore communities will be hosting fireworks displays on Tuesday evening, July 4th. Avalon, the Wildwoods, Sea Isle City, Ocean City and Atlantic City will all be hosting shows at various times this evening. Music to accompany Avalon’s fireworks will be simulcast on WCZT. ##
