The County officially closed the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge between Sea Isle City and Avalon Monday morning for a major reconstruction project that will take several months. Motorists are now forced off either island to Route 9 or the Parkway to get to the neighboring community.
Avalon now has its own independent weather station. The Avalon Office of Emergency Management announced that the station provides current weather conditions and archives historical data for resiliency purposes. The station has an online presence on the Borough website, and individuals can download a free app to check out the conditions.

Borough Council Wednesday night unanimously approved a new ordinance that eliminates single use plastic bags, plastic straws, and styrofoam containers to be issued by merchants. A few other coastal communities in our region have approved similar ordinances.

Another offseason construction project for the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge between Avalon and Sea Isle City. The bridge is scheduled to close for construction on September 17th and remain closed until the third week of May. There will be four construction projects on the bridge, including some major work on the Avalon side of the span.
Avalon is moving towards making 100 percent of its beaches smoke free. Avalon Council discussed a proposal that would reject a 15 percent carveout permitted in state law to make all of its beaches, beach paths, and boardwalk smoke free. Council is expected to further discuss this plan in two weeks.
