The Townsend’s Inlet Bridge between Avalon and Sea Isle City will not be open this summer. The County issued a press release Monday afternoon, saying the reconstruction of the bridge on the Avalon side means the bridge won’t open until about “late summer”. The bridge was supposed to be open Memorial Day weekend..that’s not happening.

Avalon has received a $150,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation for a street construction project. Mayor Marty Pagliughi announced that the grant will be used on a portion of 68th Street in the community. Avalon has secured approximately $2.7 million from this NJDOT grant program since 1997.

Next week, Avalon will have a new tax assessor. Brenda Camp was appointed to the position by Avalon Borough Council during its meeting Wednesday afternoon. Camp replaces Jeff Hesley, who worked for 26 years as the tax assessor and zoning official for the community; Hesley retires Friday.
