The Avalon Borough Council meets Wednesday afternoon and will consider a new shared services agreement with both the Avalon and Stone Harbor school districts. Council will also set its meeting dates for the new council year. A reorganization meeting of Borough Council is expected to be held on July 1st.

Avalon has wrapped up the administration of a $30,000 state grant by planting 89 new trees in the community. The trees were planted at various locations courtesy of a grant from the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry. The Borough says the effort included volunteers and professionals.
The Townsend’s Inlet Bridge between Avalon and Sea Isle City may open several weeks ahead of schedule. The County announced good progress on the bridge construction, and now the targeted opening date is on or about July 30th. Avalon’s new Surfside Park is having a soft open this weekend. Final preparations are being made at the Park that includes new playground equipment, bathrooms, a changing station, rinsing stations, gazebo, and lawn play area. The Park will officially open on June 22nd with live music and Philadelphia sports personalities.
A former nightclub in Avalon faced the wrecking ball this week. Jack’s Place has changed hands and was knocked down this week in advance of the holiday weekend. Jack’s sat in a residential neighborhood yet attracted the. younger nightclub crowd. No word yet of what’s going in its place.
Avalon will host a Memorial Day parade and ceremony next Monday. Borough officials say the parade will step off at 32nd Street and Dune Drive and proceed north to Veterans Plaza, starting at 11am. The parade is hosted by American Legion Post #331.
The only contested municipal election Tuesday night resulted in a clean sweep for Team Avalon, headed by longtime Mayor Marty Pagliughi. Pagliughi won re-election to a four year term along with his two runnings mates, incumbent Councilwoman Barbara Juzaitis and newcomer Sam Wierman, who currently chairs the Avalon Planning and Zoning Board.

Avalon and Sea Isle City are among the local communities holding yard sale weekends this weekend. Both communities will have dozens of yard sales at homes on Saturday. Avalon is also holding a bicycle auction, and firehouse plant and hoagie sale on Saturday.
