Two drug dealers from Atlantic County were each handed eight year terms in prison on Thursday. 41 year old John Wellman and 51 year old Ronald Douglas Byrd were each handed the long sentenced in court. They both dealt drugs in the greater Atlantic City area. ##

The United States Coast Guard successfully medevaced a man who became ill on a boat 28 miles off the coast of Barnegat Light on Wednesday. The 20 year old man suffered from nausea and dehydration. He was taken to a medical center for further treatment. ##
Atlantic County State Senator Jim Whelan is recovering at Pennsylvania hospital following surgery to remove a growth from one of his kidneys. Whelan’s office says the surgery was successful and he should return back home before the end of the week. ##
Atlantic County Sheriff Frank Balles is calling it quits nearly a half year before his current term ends. Balles announced that he will return to the Pleasantville Police Department and join the ranks as a Captain. He will get a pay raise to $118,000 annually with the return to Pleasantville. ##
A cat that was treated for injuries at a veterinary office in Atlantic County died as a result of rabies. County officials say it’s the first case of rabies in a cat this year in Atlantic County; last year the County had ten confirmed cases of rabies in four different types of animals. ##
A corrections officer from Atlantic County has received a four year term in probation for having inappropriate contact with a female inmate. 48 year old Castulo Matos of Egg Harbor City lost his job as a corrections official as a result of the incident, and he can never hold a public job again. ##
A southbound Garden State Parkway exit ramp in Atlantic County will be closed Wednesday at 7am until the following morning. Officials announced that the exit for eastbound Tilton Road in Egg Harbor Township will be closed during the evening and overnight hours as part of the Parkway’s lane widening project. ##
The search for an alleged missing swimmer in Absecon Inlet was called off late Monday afternoon by the United States Coast Guard. One person was ejected from a vehicle that overturned Sunday afternoon on the Atlantic City Expressway. State Police say three people were injured when a Nissan Murano carrying seven people overturned on the Expressway near milepost 21.1. Eastbound traffic lanes were shut down for nearly two hours following the accident. ##
