A 30 year old Atlantic City man has been arrested and charged with breaking into multiple properties in Margate. City police announced that arrest of Brahin Shariff Jones who was picked up over the weekend after trying to break into a property. Additional charges are pending against Jones.
Stockton University is now the location of an alleged fifth lawsuit that involves a sexual assault. A lawsuit was filed Sunday in federal court by a student who alleges a counselor’s son raped and assaulted her. So far, the school has not commented.
The Ventnor woman accused of killing her mother and grandmother in a Ventnor condo earlier this summer will continue to be held in jail. Heather Barbera has been charged with two counts of murder and accused of using a night stick to kill both relatives. She appeared in court Thursday morning.
A truck that was carrying cinder block smashed into an overpass on the Atlantic City Expressway Thursday morning, causing a temporarily shut down of the highway. Eastbound lanes of the Expressway in Egg Harbor Township were closed as officials checked the structural integrity of the overpass that was struck.
The Board of Trustees at Stockton University have approved a plan that will allow the university to pursue the purchase of the former Atlantic Club Casino in Atlantic City. The vote was unanimous, now the university may speak with TJM Properties about a potential purchase. If the deal moves forward, the casino will be demolished.
It’s another court day Thursday in the April Kauffman murder case. The three defendants are all expected in Superior Court, charged with racketeering and other criminal offenses. Kauffman was killed in a murder for hire plot that involved an illegal narcotics ring.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has reported potential conflicts of interest as it investigates the alleged sexual assault of four women at the campus of Stockton University. Four women have sued the school; there are some family ties between the prosecutor’s office, and the university.
The Zeuss sporting goods store will be out of business by Christmas. The Press of Atlantic City reports that popular store will close for good in October. The store is known for selling guns, clothing, and archery equipment.
Single use plastic bags and straws will be banned from all Atlantic County parks as of Monday. County officials say the plastics will be banned as a way to improve environmental standards. Both Avalon and Stone Harbor are passing local laws to ban the use of single-use plastics and styrofoam by 7 Mile Island merchants.
There are five open seats on the Somers Point Board of Education this fall..and zero candidates. The Press of Atlantic City reports that there are no candidates running in the fall election, which presents a problem for the school district. Incumbents are not running for a variety of reasons.
