The jury has been selected for the upcoming murder trial for a man accused of killing April Kauffman six years ago. Ferdinand Augello has pleaded not guilty in connection with the case; opening arguments are slated for Monday. The trial is expected to garner plenty of media attention.
The state’s Blue Acres program has moved into Atlantic County. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection announced that the program is now in Pleasantville and encourages people who live in flood prone areas to sell their homes. There was at least one serious accident on the Garden State Parkway on Labor Day Monday. A vehicle overturned on the Parkway near southbound milepost 39 late Monday afternoon. An ambulance was on the scene of the accident treating the victims.
Two people were rescued from a sinking boat Thursday in the Barnegat Inlet. The United States Coast Guard could not stop the boat from sinking but were able to rescue the two people on board, with no injuries reported. The boat sank after striking a jetty.

This fall 25 students at Stockton University will be enrolled in courses for a minor in medical marijuana. The United States Army Corps of Engineers will be meeting in Ventnor and other communities to discuss the future risks from back bay flooding events. The NJDEP announced that meetings will be held along the coast to assess the risks and figure out potential long term solutions. No meetings are scheduled in Cape May County.
A 36 year old East Vineland man has been fired from his job with Atlantic County after he attempted to get paid twice for his work. Ronald Grattini tried to get a paper check for services for which he already was paid via direct deposit. Grattini was employed as a Right to Know specialist.
The Margate Bridge will be closed during the overnight hours for two weeks due to necessary repair work. The bridge will close for eight hours the week of September 16th, and again during the week of September 23rd, starting at 10pm each night. Message boards will be in place for updates.
