Another retail chain is expected to close all of its stores, including 22 in the Garden State. Gymboree is expected to close its remaining stores during a court filing this week. The chain operates 22 stores in New Jersey, including one at the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing.
A fire damaged a home in Mays Landing early Saturday morning. The fire began in a dumpster and then spread to a home located on Greenbriar Court. So far no word of any injuries, but damage is extensive.
A whistleblower lawsuit has been filed against Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner. Tyner is accused of gender discrimination and retaliation in the suit by two former employees and one current employee of his office. A news conference was held Thursday to discuss the allegations. A 33 year old Galloway Township man has admitted that he killed his father nearly four years ago. James Sopuch Jr. pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter and now faces up to 30 years in a New Jersey state prison. The victim died of blunt force trauma to the head.

A 37 year old Atlantic County woman has been charged with causing the drug overdose of a seven month old child. Authorities announced this week that Shannon Devine has been charged in connection with the crime; the child has since recovered following two hospitalizations. Devine is from Atlantic City.
A 26 year old North Jersey man was shot during a New Year’s party in Ventnor. City police say it happened early Tuesday morning in the beach block of Vassar Square avenue. The man was transported to a local hospital for the injury.
Longtime Somers Point Police Chief Michael Boyd has retired. Boyd ended a 31 year career in law enforcement on New Year’s Eve. He started with the department in August, 1987. He recently also served as patrol division supervisor.
Ocean First Bank has sold the Renault Winery in Atlantic County. the bank sold the property to Renault Properties LLC and the new owner says the facility will continue to operate restaurants and banquet facilities. The winery filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection back in 2013 and was purchased by the bank at auction.
