Cape May County Freeholder Marie Hayes will be the commencement speaker at Atlantic Cape Community College’s commencement on May 23rd. Hayes is a 1979 graduate of the college with a degree in law enforcement. She has served on the Board for six years.
Five people were injured Monday morning in Ventnor when a New Jersey Transit bus collided with an automobile driven by a 20 year old Margate man. Police say both drivers, and three passengers on the bus suffered non-life threatening injuries. The accident occurred near the Ventnor Shopping Plaza.
A Powerball lottery ticket worth $50,000 was sold at the rest stop on the Garden State Parkway in Atlantic County. The ticket was purchased in advance of Saturday night’s drawing where no top prize was awarded. A second ticket worth the same amount of money was sold in northern New Jersey, according to lottery officials.
19 adults were rounded up for not paying past child support in Atlantic County. Authorities say the roundup began on Tuesday and many of the suspects wound up in jail rather than paying up on their child support.
A pedestrian was killed early this morning on the eastbound lanes of the Atlantic City Expressway. State Police say the unidentified person was struck and killed by a passing vehicle that left the scene of the accident in Winslow Township. Eastbound lanes have reopened following the accident.
A fire caused significant damage to a retail shop today at Historic Smithville. Through the Looking Glass suffered major damage to the second floor of the building courtesy of a fire this morning. The store is located next to a railroad station.
When the J.C. Penney store closes in early July at the Hamilton Mall, 81 jobs will be lost. NJ.com reports that a State report listed the job loss last month. The store is scheduled to close on July 5th.

A 26 year old caseworker who is supposed to be protecting children in Atlantic County has been charged after authorities found more than 1,000 images of child pornography on his computer.
