Governor Phil Murphy believes some residual impact from Hurricane Dorian is likely in New Jersey. Murphy says there could be some gusty winds, rain, and potential flooding from the storm, but that’s it. Murphy believes shore communities will be most impacted.
A 62 year old Margate man admitted to taking money from his business customers to support his gambling habit. Barry Markman pleaded guilty to income tax evasion for taking money from people who wanted window treatments and shutters. Markman took checks from customers and deposited the money into his private account.
The last KMart store in our area will close by the end of the year. The Press of Atlantic City reports that the KMart in Somers Point will close in December, with liquidation sales starting in a couple of weeks. The store in Rio Grande closed two years ago.
Specially designed medallion signs have been erected on the Atlantic City Expressway to honor three roadway workers who were killed while working on the Expressway. Charles A. Young, Warren W. Wilson, and Louis Pitale III were killed in separate accidents dating back to 1978. State Police say they are cracking down on speeders in work…
31 year old Kevin Waters was arrested and charged with visiting a Harley Davidson dealership in Atlantic County, and jumping on a bike and speeding off..the bike was not his. Galloway Township Police say Waters got on the bike Monday afternoon and drove it home. That’s where police arrested him on numerous charges.
Two service plazas on the Garden State Parkway in southern New Jersey will close after Labor Day weekend for major renovations. Service plazas located in Galloway Township, and north on the Parkway in Forked River will both close. They will reopen in time for Memorial Day weekend, 2020.
Cove Beach at Lake Lenape in Mays Landing is closed to bathers until at least Thursday. High level of bacteria counts were found in the water, which will be re-tested. The bacteria counts were high due to recent hot and humid weather.
Margate should have a boardwalk, and a citizens’ group will formally ask elected officials to get it done today. The Press of Atlantic City reports that a group in Margate will approach the governing body for alternatives to a boardwalk design, and request that voters be polled on the subject.
The most important lifeguard competition of the summer takes place Friday night in Longport. The 80th Annual South Jersey Championships will be held Friday evening at the 31st Avenue beach. 15 beach patrols from our region, including many from Cape May County will compete.
Police in Northfield have arrested a man after they found ten pounds of pot and some growing pot plants at his home. 48 year old Dennis Macgrogan was charged with various marijuana possession and distribution offenses.
