Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner is being sued by a Delaware bank because he defaulted on a loan. The Press of Atlantic City reports that Tyner owed Discover Bank over $8,500 on the loan. The suit was filed in Atlantic County Superior Court last month.
It could cost $1 million for mold remediation inside Borough Hall in Longport. The Press of Atlantic City reports that elected officials received a progress report on the effort. The mold was found during the summer and was likely created by the age of the building and Hurricane Sandy.
Incumbent democrats were also booted out of office in Atlantic County legislative races, although provisions still need to be counted. Democrats Vince Mazzeo and John Armato were defeated by republicans Phil Guenther and John Risley. However, Risley’s margin of victory over Mazzeo currently stands at only 69 votes.
J.C. Penney’s out, Shopper’s World in at the Hamilton Mall in Atlantic County. The Press of Atlantic City reports that Shopper’s World will replace Penney’s at the mall location. Shopper’s World sells clothing, home furnishings, furniture, and other household goods.
The 177th Fighter Wing out of Atlantic County will be responsible for some audible jets zooming through the skies during the nighttime hours this week. The unit announced on social media that night training flights resume this evening, and continue all week. Most of the activity will wrap up before midnight.
A 38 year old Egg Harbor Township man will be spending three years in prison for stealing money from the Social Security Administration. Nicholas Pao was an employee at a local administration office. A humpback whale was found dead at Island Beach State Park over the weekend. Experts say the animal was killed by a boat propeller. The whale was first reported injured near Barnegat and was found dead on the beach the following day.
A 34 year old Ventnor man has pleaded guilty to charges that he sexually assaulted two boys in 2016. John Psota was in court Thursday and admitted to abusing the boys, ages six and seven. He will be sentenced for his crime in early December.
One person was injured Friday afternoon on an amusement ride at Storybook Land. The park released a statement saying the “Out on a Limb” attraction was shut down pending an investigation. Medical attention was needed by the guest who was injured.
A 55 year old man from Buena Vista Township is headed to prison for five years for distributing child pornography on file share networks. Craig Covell was sentenced this week after he pleaded guilty to the charges back in July. Covell must serve at least half his term before being eligible for parole.
