The United States Coast Guard airlifted a man who was experiencing severe abdominal pain off a cruise ship near Little Egg Inlet Saturday night. The Guard says the man was on board the Anthem of the Seas ship when the illness struck. The man was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The United States Coast Guard was searching the waters near the Route 52 Causeway Tuesday after a woman reportedly jumped from the bridge. The Press of Atlantic City reports that three men told authorities the woman was acting erratically before she jumped from the span. So far, no victim or body has been found.

One of the longest serving mayors in our area has passed away at the age of 64. Longtime Buena Vista Township Mayor Chuck Chiarello passed away Thursday night after a series of health issues. Chiarello was a democrat; the Township will select a new mayor in January.
Nurses at Shore Memorial Hospital picked up picket signs and went on strike Tuesday. The nursing staff is upset over changes to their benefits, which include increased health care costs. Some employees held up signs that said “Unfair Labor Practice Strike”.
