Two California men have been arrested and charged with shipping a large amount of drugs to the East Coast, including Atlantic City. The two men are from San Jacinto, California and shipped more than 30 pounds of crystal meth to our region.
Atlantic City casinos had a good month in January. New win figures released by the Division of Gaming Enforcement show the casinos taking in 9.2% more revenue last month than they did one year ago. The casino win figure for the month of January was $177.3 million.
The Atlantic City Air Show returns to the city on August 21st. Air show organizers confirm the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the United States Army Golden Knights are both returning to the event. The United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force Red Arrows will also attend the event.
The new Atlantic City arena football league team will open its season on April 27th. The yet to be named team will play in Philadelphia against the Soul to begin its franchise existence. Atlantic City’s first home game is Saturday, May 4th.
Atlantic City Police say a 45 year old man was shot and killed Sunday morning on Presbyterian Avenue. Demond Tally was found shot to death. The Press of Atlantic City reports that Tally’s son, Demond Cottman, was shot to death in the parking lot of the Hamilton Mall nearly three years ago.
Congressman Jeff Van Drew says New Jersey Transit is continuing to stonewall him regarding questions of when the Atlantic City Rail Line will be back in service. Van Drew says the agency promised the train service would be running by now, and there are no answers to repeated questions regarding a timetable.
The Casino Control Commission has approved a transfer of ownership of the Ocean Resort Casino. The Commission met Wednesday and approved the transfer to the Luxor Capital Group, even though the casino lost $23 million during its first five months of operations. The Ocean Resort used to be the Revel Casino.
The future ownership of the Ocean Resort Casino may be decided by the Casino Control Commission on Wednesday. The Commission is expected to hear a complex deal in which Luxor Capital Group would increase its ownership interest and essentially take control of the casino. A designated trustee would be appointed.
The search continues for a man wanted in connection with Sunday’s shooting at the Hard Rock Casino in Atlantic City. Police say 40 year old Emery Chapman has been charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses. A 25 year old Pleasantville man was shot in the chest, allegedly by Chapman, early Sunday morning.
The Super Bowl was a super bust for sports betting in New Jersey. Casinos and horse tracks lost about $4.6 million in sports bets as many bettors took the Patriots and gave up a few points. Nearly $40 million was paid out to customers who placed bets on the game.
