The Lower Township Council will introduce a new ordinance that will prohibit individuals from smoking marijuana in public places throughout the Township. A public hearing on this new regulation is expected on May 3rd. Council will meet Monday at 7:00pm.
The historic Whitesboro School in Middle Township will get a fresh coat of paint. Township officials say work will begin this spring on an exterior painting project that was awarded by the Township last year. The school is located near Route 9, down the block from the new post office.
New Jersey reports over 4.4 million people have received vaccines. 1.6 million New Jerseyans are now fully vaccinated. 2.7 million have received first doses of either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine.
Lower Township Police reported Saturday morning that a portion of Fishing Creek Road between Breakwater Road and Charles Street remains closed from a motor vehicle accident on Friday. Crews are working to resolve the problem; there was a downed utility pole in the area. The closure is expected to last most of the day.
A fire struck the top floors of a building in the 1000 block of Asbury Avenue in Ocean City on Thursday. City officials say the fire started late at night and was under control four hours later. Four people who lived inside the building were safely evacuated.
Cape May has placed some limits on the public consumption of alcohol this summer. The Press of Atlantic City reports that the city leadership will now require patrons to consume alcohol within 50 feet of a licensed establishment. Last summer, Cape May allowed for a much broader allowance for public consumption.
