New Jersey State Police say they rounded up 14 fugitives, mostly from Atlantic County this week. Ten of those criminals were wanted for violent crimes. Most of the criminals who were busted are from Atlantic City and Pleasantville.
Cape May County is reporting 51 new cases of coronavirus. 49 of those cases are in the community, while three are in long term care centers. All of the non resident cases continue to be in Cape May City.
The Ocean City School District is hopeful to return to full time in classroom instruction by February 1st. Mayor Jay Gillian made the announcement via email on Friday. Gillian also announced his city is receiving a $2 million grant for affordable housing.
GNC is closing 40 stores around the Garden State, including two in our region. NJ Advance Media reports that GNC is closing stores at the Hamilton Mall in Atlantic City, and another location in Vineland. GNC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in June.
50 year old former pharmacist Alton Chatmon of Cumberland County could face decades in prison after he admitted to conspiring to distribute more than a million prescription pills. Chatmon operated pharmacies in Millville and Upper Deerfield Township previously. He conspired to traffic many pills, including opioids.
New Jersey will attempt to lure businesses to the Garden State with a new massive $11.5 billion tax break bill. The New Jersey Legislature will vote on the bill Monday during a full voting session. The program expired more than a year ago during a political spat among democrats.
The Margaret Mace Elementary School in North Wildwood is switching to all virtual learning next week. The school was closed on Friday, December 18th and will move to virtual learning until holiday break begins. The school anticipates going back to in-person instruction on January 4th.
New Jersey added 3,975 new cases of coronavirus on Friday. Governor Murphy announced on his social media page that there are also 44 confirmed new deaths. He will hold a further briefing on the Covid-19 pandemic later Friday afternoon.
12 residents and one nurse have died as a result of a coronavirus outbreak at the The Shores senior living facility in Ocean City. The Press of Atlantic City reports that the outbreak occurred in November. The nurse who died has been identified as 64 year old Bonnie Ciafre.
Both the New Jersey Senate and Assembly have passed landmark legislation in New Jersey that will permit recreational marijuana use and dispensing in the Garden State.
