Governor Phil Murphy says four states in the northeast, including New Jersey, need $100 billion in assistance. Murphy held a media event on Friday afternoon and announced that New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Connecticut need the funding and the cash need is getting greater everyday.
There are now 890 cases of coronavirus in New Jersey, and 11 deaths. Governor Phil Murphy made the announcement about the increasing numbers during a press conference Friday in Bergen County. More positive tests are expected to drive this number up by the end of the day.
New Jersey has opened its first big coronavirus testing center. The center opened this morning in Paramus, Bergen County. Local police there report that the line to get through the center was three miles long Friday morning. The center will be open eight hours a day, seven days a week.
Gasoline prices continue to fall in Cape May County, and throughout the State of New Jersey. The Friday gas price survey released by Mid Atlantic AAA shows that the average price for a gallon of gas locally is $2.34. That remains 17 cents higher than the state average.
Bridges to and from the Wildwoods will remain open. Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron issued a press release Friday morning saying the four mayors met yesterday and decided that the bridges remain open for now. Byron says in the release that “drastic” decisions like closing bridges are typically left up to state and county authorities.
