It’s back in operation. On Sunday, the Atlantic City Rail Line went back into service after being shut down last September for safety issues. The rail service went on line two weeks before its anticipated start date, Memorial Day weekend.
The Atlantic City Blackjacks arena football team fell to 1-2 on Saturday with a 41-34 loss to the Washington Valor. The Valor are the defending league champions in the Arena Football League. Atlantic City takes on Baltimore at home Saturday, May 18th.
Ocean City is seeking appraisals for the value of a former car dealership lot adjacent to the city’s community center. Owners of the property received preliminary approval to build 21 homes there; Mayor Jay Gillian says he doesn’t want to see the property developed with more housing.
Wildwood Police have charged two northern New Jersey men on various drug charged following a traffic stop Thursday afternoon. Police arrested 24 year old Dyaa Abdel-Aziz of Bayonne and 25 year old Mstafa Mounir of Prospect Park. Police recovered marijuana and over $3,000 in cash.
Gasoline prices are starting to inch down, including in Cape May County. Mid Atlantic AAA reports that the price for gasoline in Cape May County now averages $2.89 a gallon, among the best prices in the Garden State. The average price for a gallon of gas went down by a penny last week.
There were no winning tickets sold in Saturday night’s Powerball lottery jackpot. The jackpot will now be worth $250 million when the next drawing goes off on Wednesday. The winning numbers selected Saturday night were 6, 8, 9 37, 40, and 26.
Pleasantville Police and federal authorities are looking for a man who robbed a branch of PNC Bank on Saturday morning in the city. It looks like Wildwood High’s Frank Vogel is the next basketball coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Reports over the weekend suggest that Vogel will get a three year contract, and must have former NBA star Jason Kidd as an assistant on his staff. Vogel is a 1991 graduate of Wildwood High School.
Gerry Thornton is now a part of the New Jersey Association of Counties Hall of Fame. Thornton began his service to the freeholder board back in 1976 and absent an eight year break, has been serving ever since. Thornton is also an 11 year veteran of the United States Air Force.
