The Middle Township Committee will hold its official reorganization meeting Wednesday evening. The Committee is expected to select a new mayor now that the committee returns to a 2-1 republican majority following the swearing in of committeeman elect Ike Gandy. The Committee will also acknowledge the termination of an employment contract.
A 35 year old Ohio man poured 17 gallons of diesel fuel on himself and tried to set himself on fire in Woodbridge over the weekend. Police say Michael Green was not successful with setting a fire, and was taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation. The incident occurred at a Shell gasoline station.
A bracket championship for the Wildwood Catholic Lady Crusaders basketball team Friday night at the Boardwalk Basketball Classic in Wildwood. Former Cape May mayor and council member Jerry Gaffney has died at the age of 86. Gaffney passed away on Friday at his home. Gaffney was elected twice to the position of mayor, in 1990 and again in 1999. Gaffney also served as a Eucharistic minister.
There were no winners during last night’s Mega Millions lottery drawing Friday night. The top prize for the next drawing to be held on New Year’s Day will be approximately $415 million. The numbers drawn Friday night were 9, 10, 25, 37, 38, and the mega ball, 21.
Police in Vineland have recovered the body of a man who has been missing since December 10th. The body of Robert Nicholson IV was found near a retention pond at an apartment complex on East Chestnut Avenue. Police say autopsy results are pending.
Wells Fargo is coughing up $575 million to the State of New Jersey as part of a settlement agreement where the bank conducted improper business practices. Wells Fargo has to pay over a half billion dollars overall to settle the claims. The bank conducted the improper practices for a decade.
Ocean First Bank has sold the Renault Winery in Atlantic County. the bank sold the property to Renault Properties LLC and the new owner says the facility will continue to operate restaurants and banquet facilities. The winery filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection back in 2013 and was purchased by the bank at auction.
Funeral services will be held next Saturday for longtime Wildwood furniture store owner Charles Harvey who died on December 23rd at the age of 76. Harvey was the owner of Charles Harvey Home Furnishings that was founded in 1968. Donations in his memory are being accepted by the Greater Wildwoods Lions Club.
