SPORTS: LOWER CAPE MAY, OCEAN CITY BEGIN FOOTBALL SEASONS FRIDAY

Lower Cape May and Ocean City both begin their high school football schedules Friday night.  Ocean City will try to improve on last year’s 7-3 record as they open up at Egg Harbor Township in a game to be broadcast live at 7pm on 106.3FM the Shore.  And Lower Cape May will open at home…

HUGE INCREASE TO STATE’S MINIMUM WAGE COULD BE CLOSE

A huge increase to the State’s minimum wage could be looming.  Governor Murphy announced that one of the top priorities this fall is to jack up the minimum wage from $8.60 an hour to $15 an hour.  Murphy promised to make the higher wage law and says “the time for excuses are over”.

TROPICANA NOW GETS IN THE SPORTS BETTING BUSINESS

The Tropicana Casino is now in the sports betting business.  The Tropicana announced that it cut a deal with William Hill Race and Sports Book to launch sports betting in the near future.  The sports betting will be in the North Tower casino.

COUNTY OEM APPLIES FOR BIG HOMELAND SECURITY GRANT

Cape May County has applied for a $230,000 homeland security grant.  The county’s emergency management and prosecutor’s offices applied for the grant that would help with the conversion of a VHF radio system and the organization of the Regional Urban Search Team efforts.

MAIN BRANCH OF COUNTY LIBRARY TO BE CLOSED NEXT MONDAY

The main branch of the Cape May County Library system will be closed on Monday.  County officials announced that electrical work must be conducted at the branch in Cape May Court House and it will be closed for the day.  All other locations will be open, but services may be limited.

BLUE ACRES PROGRAM MOVES INTO ATLANTIC COUNTY

The state’s Blue Acres program has moved into Atlantic County.  The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection announced that the program is now in Pleasantville and encourages people who live in flood prone areas to sell their homes.  More than 640 properties have been involved in this program.

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP POLICE ARREST MAN WANTED FOR BURGLARIES

Hamilton Township Police have arrested a 34 year old Atlantic City man who is accused of committing multiple residential burglaries in the township before summer.  Gilbert Bonilla has confessed to six counts of burglary, six counts of theft, and two counts of criminal mischief.  He was transported back to the Atlantic County Jail.
