A former Bridgeton councilwoman is charged with stealing more than $20,000 from the city’s housing authority while she was an elected official. Gladys Lugardo-Hemple is charged of stealing the money out of an account at Ocean First Bank; she allegedly put the cash into her personal account.
Vineland has to pay $425,000 to a veteran cop who filed a retaliation lawsuit. Richard Burke claimed that a detective attempted to hinder an investigation eight years ago by warning people that the police were closing in on them. Burke reported the actions to supervisors, but no action was taken.
A 67 year old Vineland man will spend at least the next quarter century in prison after being convicted on charges that he sexually assaulted two young children. Jonathan Gadola was convicted of two counts of first degree aggravated sexual assault and other offenses stemming back to the crimes back in September, 2016.
Comcast customers throughout South Jersey suffered some service interruptions Wednesday morning. The utility confirmed that thousands of customers in southern New Jersey, including Cumberland County, were without service during the morning hours. Most of those subscribers have had service restored.
Lower Township Police announced that the court offices will be closed Thursday, through Labor Day Monday. Police announced that the court location will be moved back to its original location, at the Public Safety Building, located at the Cape May Airport. The court offices will be open in the new location on Tuesday.
The United States Army Corps of Engineers will be meeting in Ventnor and other communities to discuss the future risks from back bay flooding events. The NJDEP announced that meetings will be held along the coast to assess the risks and figure out potential long term solutions. No meetings are scheduled in Cape May County.
Former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Mychal Kendricks has been charged with insider trading. Multiple reports say that Kendricks has admitted to the federal crime. Kendricks is now a member of the Cleveland Browns’ organization. Kendricks is alleged to to have profited to the tune of $1.2 million during this trading.
