Cape May County has announced some major work to Bayshore and Academy roads, starting next Monday. Officials say the paving project will begin at the intersection of Seashore and Township roads in Cold Spring. The work may move to Academy Road the next day. ##

The National Oceanic Administration’s Climate Prediction Center announced this week that an “extremely” active hurricane season still looms and there is a 60 percent change of between 14 and 19 named storms this season. ##
The Borough of Avalon will conduct a drainage study in its north end beach blocks. Mayor Martin Pagliughi announced that the study will be conducted to determine any deficiencies in the pump and drainage systems in the north end following two recent heavy rainfall events that flooded some beach block streets. ##
A federal corruption trial is looming for New Jersey democratic Senator Robert Menendez. A federal judge tossed out a last-ditch effort by Menendez to have the trial dismissed. He is accused of giving favors to a donor in Florida in return for various campaign contributions and gifts. ##
Several individuals were shot Wednesday night in Bridgeton during heightened violence in the city. Police are sorting out the details but say several individuals were shot around 10pm on North Pearl Street. Medivac helicopters were brought in to transport the wounded. ##
