COUNTY SIGNS UP FOR CODE RED EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM

Cape May County now has its own emergency alert system. Freeholder Director Gerry Thornton announced that the Cape May County Office of Emergency Management has joined the Code Red alert system that will allow of emergency alerts during storm events, and other non-weather related emergencies. FEDERAL PROBE INTO EMPLOYEE RECORDS EXPANDS IN ATLANTIC COUNTY

The federal probe into health care benefits for public employees in Atlantic County has expanded. Federal officials are now looking into the records of both the Margate and Ventnor city school districts. Subpoenas were issued to collect those records this week. ##

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP POLICE TO TRAIN ON BIKE PATH TUESDAY

Middle Township Police and the Cape May County Police Academy will be conducting a training exercise on Tuesday along a portion of the Township’s bike path next to Atlantic Cape Community College. That section of the bike path will be interrupted on Tuesday between the hours of 10am and 1pm. ##

WILDWOOD TO HAVE ONE FINAL MARKETPLACE THIS SUMMER

There will be one more Downtown Wildwood Marketplace celebration this summer. Officials announced that the final event will be held on Thursday, August 17th starting at 4pm with everything from food to wine to dog treats. It will be held at the site of the weekly Farmer’s Markets, held on Saturdays. ##

GOOD CROWDS FOR VINELAND’S FIRST FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL

An estimated 10,000 people showed up for Vineland’s first-ever downtown food truck festival over the weekend. The festival included a dozen food trucks along with crafters and live music. ##

STONE HARBOR MAN CHARGED WITH THEFT, EXTORTION, BURGLARY

A 51 year old Stone Harbor man has been charged with theft, burglary, and extortion in connection with a scam over gym equipment. County Prosecutor Robert Taylor announced that 51 year old Thomas Marchetti Jr. was charged following a scam that lasted 18 months. Authorities allege that Marchetti scammed another individual out of $75,000. ##

OPEN AGAIN: SHOPRITE IN EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP RE-OPENS

The ShopRite supermarket in Egg Harbor Township is open again. The store was closed early Sunday afternoon after a fire broke out on the roof of the building. The cause of the fire has been undetermined at this time. ##

Former Philadelphia Phillies catcher Darren Daulton has died at the age of 55 after a four year battle with brain cancer. Dalton passed away on Sunday after becoming one of the most popular players in Phillies history. ##
