OCEAN CITY APPROVES BUDGET WITH TAX INCREASE

Ocean City is experiencing a tax increase this year.  Mayor Jay Gillian announced that the budget was approved on Thursday night that will finance a capital plan to make various street, beach, and bay improvements.  Gillian also announced that the budget is being impacted by a $1.1 million increase in health insurance costs. ##

NORTH WILDWOOD TO ADDRESS PARKING, APPOINTMENTS ON TUESDAY

North Wildwood’s city council has a routine agenda for Tuesday afternoon.  Council will authorize annual parking permits and set the rates for parking meters and parking lots in advance of the summer season.  It will also make various appointments and designate areas to be protected by the North Wildwood Beach Patrol. ##

WILDWOOD CITY HALL TO HAVE NO POWER, PHONE SERVICE MONDAY MORNING

Wildwood City Hall will have no phone or electrical service on Monday morning.  City officials posted an advisory on their website announcing that an electrical service upgrade and emergency repair is needed, so the lights will be off until Monday afternoon. ##

LOWER TOWNSHIP TO CREATE VACANT PROPERTY REGISTRY MONDAY NIGHT

The Lower Township Council will meet Monday night and is expected to create a registry for vacant and abandoned properties in the community.  The ordinance is modeled after a similar ordinance in Middle Township and requires owners of the properties to pay a fee to register the properties.  The meeting starts at 7pm. ##

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE TO CONSIDER BOND ORDINANCE

The Middle Township Committee meets Monday night and will consider an amendment to a bond ordinance that will finance improvements to a sewer utility.  The Committee is also expected to ratify a resolution that authorizes a shared services agreement with the County for the Middle Township/Lower Township bike path connector project. ##

TWO DEAD FOLLOWING HAMILTON TOWNSHIP TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

Two people were killed during a head on traffic accident on Bears Head Road in Hamilton Township Friday afternoon.  Police say the road was closed for several hours while they investigated the traffic scene.  No word yet on the identities of the two individuals killed. ##

SPORTS: TWO MIDDLE TWP. LACROSSE PLAYERS SET STATE RECORDS

Two Middle Township lacrosse players have set all time state records in the same game.  Bridget Ruskey and Allison Hunter set state records for goals and assists during Friday’s 17-11 victory over Mainland.  Ruskey scored eight times and has 440 career goals. ##

NO INJURIES RESULTING FROM A HOUSE FIRE IN VINELAND

No injuries resulted from a house fire in Vineland Friday morning.  Officials say a home belonging to a fireman went up in flames and smoke in the 1500 block of Harding Road.  The fire was under control in a half hour; the cause remains under investigation. ##

FOUR ARRESTED FOR BEATING UP WOMAN IN MILLVILLE

Four people have been arrested for assaulting a woman in Millville last Wednesday.  Four people surrounded a woman and repeatedly beat her, and the fight was captured on video.  Police Chief Jody Farabella says more arrests are forthcoming. ##
