UPDATE: MERION INN IN CAPE MAY SUFFERS MAJOR FIRE

A major fire has damaged one of Cape May’s landmarks.  The Merion Inn in Cape May suffered a major fire Thursday morning that will likely cancel some holiday events over the next few days.  Cape May fire officials told Coastal Broadcasting that the two-alarm fire broke out just after 7am on Thursday.  Fire crews have ordered the building completely shut down since there was major damage on the second floor of the building.  One man was airlifted to a nearby hospital.  Fire companies from Cape May, West Cape May, and Cape May Point all responded to the fire.  The cause of the fire appears to be accidental in nature.
