Atlantic City Electric continues to make significant progress restoring power to customers who lost service in the wake of Hurricane Irene. Of the 145,000 customers who lost power, more than 95 percent—138,000 customers—have been restored.
The company expects to complete the massive restoration by midnight, Friday, Sep. 2, with the vast majority restored by midnight Thursday. Service to most customers on the barrier islands should be complete by Tuesday evening, with those remaining to be restored by Wednesday. Most of the large groups of outages have been addressed and crews are now focusing on individual customers and smaller groups of outages. These outages typically take more time and effort to restore.
Flooded roads in southern New Jersey have been an issue, impeding the company’s ability to rapidly move crews and equipment throughout the region. The company, nevertheless, has hundreds of personnel – including many providing mutual assistance from other utilities – working to restore service.
