UNEMPLOYMENT DOWN IN NEW JERSEY FOR AUG., DESPITE JOB LOSSES

The state’s unemployment rate dipped slightly in Aug. New numbers say the state’s unemployment rate fell to 8.5 percent, even though there were losses in jobs. The revised numbers for July were ugly, including a nearly 12,000 net job loss for the month. There are numbers suggesting that large numbers are leaving the labor force, which is perhaps helping to push the unemployment numbers down.
