TURNED ON: FLASHING TRAFFIC BEACON IN WOODBINE

Mayor William Pikolycky is pleased to announce on Friday, March 4, 2011, at 2 p.m. the flashing beacon on the corner of Washington Avenue (County Route 557) and Woodbine-Ocean View Road (County Route 550) will be   activated.

This intersection experiences large turning movements on weekends in the summers due to motorists using this route as an alternative to and from Route 55 and the Garden State Parkway. This over-the-road flashing beacon will become part of Woodbine’s ongoing traffic calming initiative of its Downtown Streetscape project. This project, which combined both aesthetic and safety enhancements, received funding from the New Jersey Department of Transportation for this intersection in the amount of $225,000.

“This beacon will greatly enhance safety for both our local residents and neighbors and the influx of visiting tourists that pass through this intersection on both a daily and a seasonal basis. We have been proponents for this safety addition for some time and thank the County for bringing to fruition this quality-of-life feature, and doing so without major disruption to our recently installed streetscape and traffic calming paving installation and sidewalks and crosswalks,” noted Mayor Pikolycky.
