TEENAGE GIRL DROWNS IN MIDDLE TOWNSHIP

On Friday June 11th at approximately 2:20 PM, the Middle Township Police Department Communication Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a possible drowning at the Hideaway Beach Campground in the Dias Creek section of the Township.  Rescue and police responded to the scene.  Upon arrival, CPR was being performed on a 17 year old female from Philadelphia by her friends.  Middle Township EMS took over CPR and transported the female to Cape Regional Medical Center in Cape May Court House where the female was pronounced dead at 3:10 PM.  The preliminary investigation reveals that the female and friends were taking turns seeing who could hold their breath underwater the longest.  The female went to the bottom of the pool and did not come back up.  The female was then pulled from the pool where an adult friend and a family member of the friend started performing CPR.  The parents of the female were notified.  The name of the juvenile female is not being released at this time.  AtlantiCare Medics also assisted on scene.  Sergeant William Adams and Detective Mark Higginbottom investigated.
