STATE LAWMAKERS DEFEND NEW COASTAL RULES

State environmental officials began their week this week defending new coastal development rules.  The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection told a legislative panel on Monday that a new coastal development plan streamlines rules and makes good sense for the state.  Environmentalists disagree, saying the new rules will allow rampant building along the state’s coastlines.  Opponents claim that the state has learned no lessons from Hurricane Sandy.
