STATE BUDGET GETS LINE-ITEM VETO, BUT IS FINALLY PASSED

gov_christieGov. Chris Christie used a line-item veto to bring the budget proposal down to a level he is comfortable passing. Christie announced to the media on Thursday that the budget would be constitutionally balanced by the midnight deadline, and would come in at $29.7 billion and not $30.6 billion as prepared by the Democrats. Lawmakers can override any line item veto, but they need a two-thirds majority, which would require Republican support. Passing the budget avoided a government shutdown, as the fiscal year ended on Thursday.
