A Jersey City police officer who was killed by a gunman earlier this week will be promoted to the rank of detective and receive the highest honor possible. Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop announced that Officer Melvin Santiago will be promoted and receive the police department’s Medal of Honor. Santiago was a rookie cop and was shot in the head while responding to a burglary call over the weekend. The gunman was shot and killed by other officers.
