All westbound lanes on the Atlantic City Expressway bridge over Route 50 at Exit 17 are now open following months of repairs to significant damage caused by a truck on State Highway 50 shortly before Memorial Day weekend this year.
The South Jersey Transportation Authority was forced to reduce traffic to two lanes for more than 12 weeks heavily impacting commuter traffic on the Expressway, specifically in Hamilton Township, and redirected Route 50 traffic in both directions.
Over the past few weeks, SJTA contractors prepared the design for the Expressway’s repair and factored in time for the fabrication of the materials. The new beams and bearings were delivered in mid July. The Expressway was paved last week. Complete restoration of Route 50 is expected to be completed by mid September.
Motorists should note that there will be intermittent lane closures following Labor Day to prepare for construction of a signage structure associated with the widening of the Expressway.
