SENATOR LOOKING TO INCREASE GAS TAX TO BAIL OUT TRANSPORTATION TRUST FUND

Yet another lawmaker has suggested an increase to the gas tax as a way to fix the state’s transportation woes. The state’s Transportation Trust Fund is scheduled to run out of money next year for new projects. According to the Asbury Park Press, Sen. Sean Kean said a single-digit increase to the gas tax is all the state would need to keep the fund going. Currently, the fund will only have enough money to pay off its debt starting next year. Gov. Chris Christie said he will not consider an increase to the gas tax.
