SENATE BUDGET COMMITTEE PROBES VINELAND DEVELOPMENTAL CENTER CLOSING

The closing of the Vineland Developmental Center took center stage during the Senate budget hearings on Monday. State Senator Jeff Van Drew pressed Human Services Commissioner Jennifer Velez over the economic impact of closing the center. Around 1,400 jobs would be lost if the center were to close. There is about 400 patients at the center. Gov. Chris Christie wants to move them to a group home setting, saying it will save money and is better for them.
