SEA ISLE CITY SHARKS WIN COUNTY HOCKEY TITLE

IMG_1491For the second year in a row, the Sea Isle Sharks clinched the Cape May County Hockey League championship. Often referred to as the “Island Team,” the Sharks are comprised of 2nd 3rd and 4th graders from Sea Isle City, Avalon, Stone Harbor and Ocean City. Their season began on October 6th and ended with a record of 8 wins and 2 losses, allowing the Sharks to finish the regular season in second place overall.

During post-season action, the Sharks defeated Middle Township’s orange team, earning them a spot in the final round of play against Middle Township’s white team.  Facing the league’s top-ranked players in a best-of-three series, the Sharks won the title on December 15 by beating the white team during game-two with a shut-out victory, 1-0, at the hockey facility in Middle Township.

According the Cheryl Castor of Sea Isle City’s Department of Recreation, the win was the result of a fine team effort.

“Head Coach James McDevitt and Assistant Coach Brian Green did an excellent job teaching the boys the game of hockey and how to play as a team,” said Castor. “The players gave their all and showed tremendous spirit.  It was very exciting!”
