A new bill was signed into law that would create a voluntary next-of-kin registry. The legislation is named after Sara Dubinin, who was injured in an accident and her family didn’t find out in time to make it to the hospital before she slipped into a coma. Dubinin died the next day and her family was unable to talk to her before her death. The voluntary registry would allow for people to apply and therefore make it easier to contact a family member in the event of emergency.
