REPORT: DOZENS OF TOWNS LOOKING TO INCREASE TAXES OVER TWO-PERCENT CAP

Almost 30 towns are likely going to ask voters to increase the taxes in the municipality over the state’s two-percent increase cap. The Star-Ledger reports at least 27 are expected to have referendum votes on the issue. The only Cape May County municipality listed as a possibility is the City of Wildwood. Wildwood Commissioner Chip Harshaw told Coastal Broadcasting that Wildwood has not made any request to the state to hold the referendum. The Department of Community Affairs gave a list of possible towns that may hold a special election for the tax increase
