PYGMY SPERM WHALE, YOUNG CALF PUT TO SLEEP AFTER COMING ASHORE

The Marine Mammal Stranding Center announced that a pygmy sperm whale and its young calf were both euthanized on Thursday after coming ashore in Brigantine. Officials with the center say the mother was bloodied and tired, possibly from striking a jetty. These types of whales that come up on the beach often do not survive.
