PUBLIC ADVOCATE GROUP RALLIES AGAINST HEROIN EPIDEMIC

A group of about 40 people rallied outside the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office in Mays Landing Monday morning to protest the heroin and opiate overdose epidemic in Atlantic County. The group, called Stop the Heroin, was led by Tammy Schmincke of Egg Harbor Township, who co-founded the organization with her husband Bill, lost their son Stephen James to heroin addiction in March. The group was invited into a courtroom at the Court Complex by Judge Mark H. Sandson, who wanted to hear their stories and said that treatment, not jail time, would help to reduce the heroin problem.
