PEDESTRIAN-MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN RIO GRANDE

Middle Township Police have released information about a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.  The following a press statement from the Middle Township Police Department:

On this date the Middle Township Police Department responded to a reported pedestrian motor vehicle accident on Route 47 in the area of the Rio Grande Shoprite.  The investigation revealed that Amanda Lee of the Villas, age 18, was travelling north on Route 47 in a 1997 Honda Civic when Arthur Schellinger 3rd , age 48 and homeless,  attempted to cross the roadway not using the crosswalk and was struck by Lee.  Investigation revealed that Schellinger was intoxicated and walked into the roadway, and was almost struck by another vehicle prior to being struck by Lee who had the green light at the upcoming intersection.  The Middle Township Rescue Squad and Atlanticare Medics responded to the scene.  Schellinger was airlifted to the Atlanticare Regional Medical Center City Division by Southstar.
