PARTIAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN OCCURS AS CONGRESS IS DEADLOCKED

For the first time in 17 years the Federal Government has partially shutdown. After Congress failed to reach a compromise agreement on a temporary funding bill, about 800,000 federal workers will be without pay today and most non-essential federal programs and services will be suspended. Essential workers such as air traffic controllers and border patrol agents will not be affected. Social Security benefits will also continue as scheduled and Medicare and Medicaid will continue to function.
