O'CONNOR GIVEN NEW FIVE YEAR TERM AS COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR

IMAG0038

Steve O’Connor has been given a new five-year contract extension as county administrator. The Board of Chosen Freeholders voted 3-1 on the issue on Tuesday. Gerald Thornton voted against and Ralph Bakley abstained. Many local residents spoke against the move by the Freeholder board. Two main objections were raised. The first was that the contract was for five years. Many people present felt that O’Connor should be given a three or four year extension, because of the final times the county is in. His previous two contracts were for five years. Also, many felt that Freeholder-elect Susan Sheppard deserved a chance to vote on the issue. She will be sworn in next week during the reorganization meeting. O’Connor’s contract was scheduled to end on Jan. 31.
