MIDDLE TOWNSHIP POLICE INVESTIGATE HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT

Middle Township PoliceThe following is a press release from the Middle Township Police Department regarding a hit and run accident that took place early Saturday morning:

On 07/17/2010, at 0142hrs, the Middle Township Police responded to Bayshore Road in Del Haven near the border of Lower Township, for a report of a subject lying in the roadway.  Officers from the Lower Township Police Department arrived on scene first and discovered that Patrick Delaney, 43, of Del Haven was struck by a motor vehicle resulting in severe lacerations to both of his legs.  Mr. Delaney told the officers on scene that he was walking home to Del Haven from Lower Township when a vehicle travelling south struck him and continued travelling into Lower Township without stopping.   Mr. Delaney was unable to provide any further information about the vehicle that struck him.

Mr. Delaney was initially treated on scene by the Lower Township Rescue Squad, prior to being transported to the National Guard Armory in the Crest Haven Complex. He was air lifted from Armory to the Atlantic Care Regional Medical Center, City Division, for treatment of his injuries.

There are no witnesses or suspects at this time and the Middle Township Police are asking for assistance from anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who can provide any information that may assist in identifying the driver of the hit and run vehicle.  The accident is being investigated by Patrolman Jack Trombetta.
