The latest results show that many businesses are doing very well this summer season. The Cape May County Tourism Department released its mid-summer survey and 85 percent of county businesses report to having a strong, good, or moderate season. Those numbers are up from 2009, when only 65 percent responded to those ratings.
Nearly 600 businesses ranging from accommodations, to restaurants, retail, attractions and transportation were emailed the survey on August 2nd in an effort to help county tourism officials assess the summer season. Nearly half (49%) of the respondents of the survey came from the accommodation sector with 18% coming from the attractions sector; 16% from retail and 15% from restaurants and 2% from the transportation sector.
A full 62% of the respondents indicated that they were having a ‘Good’ summer. The breakdown of that 62% includes; 19% reported their summer as Strong; 40% indicated a Good summer; and, 3% of the respondents said summer business exceeded expectations.
Fall projections also looked good with 55% indicating that reservations were on par with 2009 and 20% saying reservations were up for 2010.
