Authorities arrested a Morris County man after he arranged to meet a 14-year-old girl for a sexual encounter and was met by Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office detectives and a detective from Hamilton Township instead, Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel announced.
Stephen V. Bubnik, 56, of Florham Park, was arrested in Mays Landing by members of the Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Unit and charged with second-degree luring and third-degree attempted endangering. It is alleged that Bubnik met the “14-year-old girl” in an Internet chat room a couple of weeks ago before arranging the sexual meeting, Prosecutor Housel said.
Superior Court Judge Carol Higbee set Bubnik’s bail at $250,000 cash and he was transported to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
A second-degree crime carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years and a $150,000 fine. A third-degree crime carries a prison sentence fines.
