A major piece of legislation has passed through the Assembly and will be law. The Assembly has approved a bill that would reform pension and health benefits in New Jersey, requiring public employees to pay more for these programs. Gov. Chris Christie has supported the compromise bill that was put together between himself, Senate President Steve Sweeney, and Assembly Speaker Shelia Oliver. There will be a sliding scale, where employees that make more will pay more. It goes into effect on July 1, the start of a new fiscal year.
