LOWER TOWNSHIP SEEKS MONEY FROM MUA TO BALANCE BUDGET

Lower Township Council is seeking money from the MUA in order to help drive down a proposed tax hike. The nearly $164,000 being asked for is about half of what the township is legally allowed to ask for. State law allows for the town to ask for 5 percent of the MUA’s surplus. The MUA will have to take up the township’s request. Some residents in Lower Township are concerned that their rates will be going up for water use, even though their taxes wouldn’t be. Mayor Mike Beck cast the lone “no” vote.
