LOWER TOWNSHIP MANAGER DISCUSSES CHANGES TO POLICE STRUCTURE

A restructuring is taking place in Lower Township Police Department. Manager Mike Voll told Coastal Broadcasting that the new system will be 1 Chief, 1 Capt., 2 LT., 4 Sgt., 4 Corp., and the balance will be patrol officers.  Currently there are 35 sworn and 2 new recruits that were hired that are local veterans, Anthony Greto and Mathew Gamble. They are going to Cape May County Police Academy on August 29 and should be done by end of January.

Voll also discussed the potential of county dispatch services. Lower and Middle Township are in discussions with Cape May County Emergency Management Officer Frank McCall over the possibility. Voll said the county is among the only ones in the state that have not merged their dispatch services.

Finally, a police substation is expected to be opened in the Lower Township Recreation Department. It will be at no cost to the taxpayers. Police will interact with youth and provide extra security.
