LOWER POLICE FIND SUSPECTS IN COPPER ROBBERY

Two men are believed responsible for stealing copper in Lower Township. Police say that Frederick Hamilton, of the Villas, and Donavan Smith, of North Cape May have both been arrested in that investigation. During the month of February 2010 the Lower Township Police Department began receiving reports of copper piping being removed from the crawl spaces of homes throughout Lower Township. The majority of the homes where the thefts occurred were unoccupied summer residences. The Lower Township Police Department has taken reports on nearly (30) thirty such thefts in the last few months.

Hamilton is believed to have fled the area. Smith surrendered himself to police and will face 19 counts of burglary and theft. Bail was set at $50,000.
