U.S. Representative Frank A. LoBiondo petitioned President Barack Obama to support New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s request for a Major Disaster Declaration for three South Jersey counties severely affected by flooding from recent storms. On Monday, LoBiondo joined local elected officials in touring several of the heaviest-damaged communities, including Pittsgrove Township, Upper Deerfield Township, Hopewell Township and the City of Bridgeton.
Many roads were closed because of the massive flooding that destroyed roadways. The declaration will allow the municipalities to tap into FEMA funding. Initial estimates place the damage at $20 million.
